W Editions Announces Inaugural Limited Edition Print Release: Sewing Kit by Natalie Lerner

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BROOKLYN, N.Y., May 18, 2025 — W Editions, a fine art editions publisher based in Brooklyn, New York, is pleased to announce the release of Sewing Kit, a limited edition lithograph by Brooklyn-based artist Natalie Lerner (b. 1992, Sarasota, FL). The edition of 25 prints marks the inaugural collaboration between W Editions and an emerging artist.

Lerner’s work merges the mythical with the deeply personal. Her atmospheric, often calligraphic forms are shaped by personal experiences, emotions, and memories.

In Sewing Kit, Lerner recalls a visit with her mother in Los Angeles and examines the complexity of life, life cycles, and the passage of time. The visit draws out older memories from the artist’s childhood, and the resulting image is a dreamscape — a swirl of threads that Lerner relates to the threads held by the three Fates of Greek mythology. The ancient Greeks hypothesized that our ties to the physical world were like a thread suspended and controlled by these three Fates who, with one sharp snip, could detach anyone’s connection.

“The dark loose thread, decorated with spirals, pins, and marbles, winds around the frame of the paper; the object, in my eyes, stems from the Greek myth of the three fates. The trio are godly old crones who could weave and snip a thread to begin or end someone’s life,” said Natalie Lerner.

The visit to Los Angeles became a sudden recreation of Lerner’s Florida childhood — days spent having coffee on her mother’s front stoop, running errands, and carting things home from the farmers market. While cutting up apples from the market, she thought of the sinking and darkening areas of the skin if gone uneaten, the fruit as a referent to health, and the apple slowly disappearing.

Although the thread is a symbol of the life force in Greek mythology, in our daily lives we use thread to repair, mend, and unite. A metaphorical thread is also what connects us to our ancestors, our culture, our pasts, and each other — traditions, memories, friendships, and kinships like pins, marbles, or knots along Lerner’s thread, waiting to be discovered, or remembered, by someone down the line.
