Relief Printing

The inverse of intaglio. instead of the ink sitting in grooves below the surface, it sits on the raised areas above it. The carved-out parts stay white, The raised parts print.

Woodblock and linocut are both relief processes. It's the oldest print family — humans have been pressing inked surfaces onto things for a very long time.
